A knee injury is expected to keep Stoke City midfielder Brek Shea out of action for "a number of weeks".

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has admitted that he expects to be without the services of American midfielder Brek Shea for "a number of weeks".

The 24-year-old suffered a knee injury in their 2-0 win over Philadelphia Union on Wednesday and is due to undergo a scan on Thursday.

"He will go for a scan tomorrow (Thursday), but we know that we will definitely be without him for a number of weeks," Hughes told the club's official television channel.

"It looks fairly serious but fingers crossed it isn't any more serious than we already know it is."

Shea joined Stoke from FC Dallas in January.
