Charlton Athletic appoint Guy Luzon as new boss

Charlton Athletic name former Standard Liege boss Guy Luzon as their new head coach.

Charlton Athletic have named former Standard Liege boss Guy Luzon as their new head coach.

The Addicks had been without a manager since Bob Peeters was sacked on Sunday because of an eight-game winless run.

Luzon, 39, who has signed an 18-month deal at The Valley, told the club website: "We have talented players in the squad and it is my job to try and bring the best out of them.

"It is important to have a positive spirit in the team and I want to ensure the entire group is fighting together for the good of the club."

Luzon's appointment again shows a Belgian bias from owner Roland Duchatelet, who has brought in several players from Liege - another club he owns - and also appointed Peeters for his strong Belgian Pro League record.

Speaking of Israeli Luzon, Duchatelet added: "I regard him as an extremely talented coach who has already achieved a lot in his career so far.

"There were a lot of records broken during his first season at Standard Liege and they had the best defensive record in the league."

Luzon's first game in charge will be away at Watford in the Championship on Saturday.
