Tottenham Hotspur announce that goalkeeper Fraser Forster has signed a new contract with club until June 2025.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that back-up goalkeeper Fraser Forster has signed a new contract with the North London club until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

The 35-year-old made the move to Spurs on a free transfer in June 2022 after leaving Southampton, and he featured on 20 occasions for the club during the 2022-23 campaign due to an injury for Hugo Lloris.

The goalkeeper has made one appearance for Ange Postecoglou's side this season, featuring in the EFL Cup defeat to Fulham at the end of August, but he is yet to play in the Premier League, as summer arrival Guglielmo Vicario is the number one.

"We are delighted to announce that Fraser Forster has signed a new contract with the Club that will run until the summer of 2025," read a statement from Tottenham on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Forster told the club's official website: "Yes, definitely, that's the first thing, really. I've loved my time here so far and delighted to extend it.

"From the second I got here I've loved being at the club. We have a fantastic squad, and you can really see the direction the club wants to go in. It's fantastic to be part of it.

"Ange has come in and everyone loves him. He's been huge for everyone, not just the keepers. He's very black and white in the way he wants to play and that instils confidence into everyone to go out there and play with freedom. As a player, that's what you want to hear.

"It's not easy, every professional footballer wants to play on a Saturday, and that's what the whole week is built around, but I was aware that when I came to this club, that probably wouldn't be the case and I'd be the number two.

"As you get older, you appreciate different things, but to be at a club of this stature and the direction it's moving in, it's great to be a part of that.

"Okay, I'm not playing the games, necessarily, but you are trying to help people, be a good guy around the place and help the squad as a whole. All that matters, ultimately, is the team winning on a Saturday.

"Obviously, you want to play, but if not, it's a case of doing whatever you can to help the team and squad win. You can see the atmosphere in the stadium, the fans can see what we're producing, and I'm delighted to be part of that, and to help the team in any way I can."

Forster started his professional career at Newcastle United, but he failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club before leaving for Celtic in 2012.

The experienced stopper has 148 Premier League appearances to his name, meanwhile, with the bulk of those during his time at Southampton between 2014 and 2022.

Forster is unlikely to receive league action this season unless Vicario picks up an injury, but he will be hoping to feature in the FA Cup against Burnley on January 6.
