South African midfielder Steven Pienaar returns to Everton on a permanent basis following an 18-month stint with Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton have completed the signing of Steven Pienaar from fellow Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

The 30-year-old swapped Everton for Spurs during the 2011 January transfer window.

However, the move failed to work out for the South African and he spent the second half of last season back at Goodison Park on loan.

Having now secured a permanent return to the Merseyside-based side, Pienaar revealed that it was move he was keen to finalise.

"I am happy to be here. It took a few weeks to sort out but I am delighted to be back and excited to play for Everton," he told the club's official website.

"There was no doubt in my mind that I would be back here. At the end of the season I told the manager how I felt and I am happy now it is all done."

The Toffees have parted with £4.5m to capture Pienaar's services for a second time.
