Christian Eriksen admits a tinge of frustration at Tottenham Hotspur's failure to grant him a move away this summer.

Christian Eriksen has expressed an element of frustration at failing to secure a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Dane, who has one year left on his contract, looked likely to depart during the transfer window in order for Spurs to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Reports suggested that Real Madrid had expressed interest in Eriksen, who is said to view the Bernabeu as his preferred next destination.

Reflecting on how a move to Spain failed to materialise this summer, Eriksen told the Daily Mail: "No it wasn't [wrong] but it is football and you never know what happens in football and many things always come into play.

"I wish I could decide just as in the Football Manager [game] but unfortunately I can't."

Manchester United reportedly made a late entry into the race for Eriksen last month, but the 27-year-old was not interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Eriksen was placed in the starting XI for Spurs' 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, scoring the opening goal to cap off an impressive first-half performance.
