Harry Redknapp claims that Newcastle's success this season has been a surprise.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has said that high-flying Newcastle United's success has come as a surprise around the league.

Toon boss Alan Pardew, who took over at the Sports Direct Arena a season ago, has been able to keep the club in and around the top of the table for much of the current campaign. However, Redknapp admits that not even he had predicted such success.

"Alan Pardew has done a fantastic job with them, to have them in that position," he said. "To be honest, none of us expected that at the start of the season.

"He's exceeded all expectations, he's done a fantastic job.

"They're a dangerous team, for sure. But we're a good team as well and at home, we'll take all the beating."

Tottenham welcome the Magpies to White Hart Lane this afternoon.
