Garry Monk: 'Gylfi Sigurdsson has returned a better player'

Swansea City boss Garry Monk feels that Gylfi Sigurdsson has improved as a player in his two years away from the club at Tottenham Hotspur.

Swansea City boss Garry Monk believes that Gylfi Sigurdsson has returned to the club a better player than in his first spell at the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans secured the signing of the 24-year-old as he joined the club in a deal that sent Ben Davies and Michel Vorm to Tottenham Hotspur.

Monk has insisted that Sigurdsson has developed a lot as a player in the two years he spent at White Hart Lane, which followed his loan spell at Swansea in the 2011-12 season.

He told the club's official website: "From the start of the summer, he was a player I really wanted to bring in straight away. He's a top player – actually a better player than when he was first here.

"He's come in and contributed straight away today. He adds quality to our squad, which is what we want.

"It helps that he already knows how this club works. He knows me well, as well as a few of the boys, so in terms of settling in, that will help him."

Sigurdsson made 35 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, scoring six goals.
