Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton claims that Harry Redknapp should remain at Tottenham Hotspur.

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has claimed that Harry Redknapp should remain at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 64-year-old is the favourite to succeed Fabio Capello as England manager after the Italian resigned on Wednesday night.

"I think he's by far the best candidate to remain at Tottenham," said Hughton, who served as both a player and a coach at White Hart Lane.

"The people they haven't thought about are those at Tottenham, the chairman and the supporters at Tottenham but he is their manager. Certainly none of them will want him to leave. I can probably speak because it's a club I know very well, I spent a long time there.

"If I was somebody standing on the terraces at White Hart Lane, or a staff member there, or more importantly if I was the chairman, I wouldn't want Harry going anywhere."

Stuart Pearce has been named as the interim coach of the national side for their friendly against the Netherlands at the end of the month.
