Eric Dier: 'Tottenham Hotspur missed Christian Eriksen against Southampton'

Midfielder Eric Dier admits that Tottenham Hotspur missed the contribution of Christian Eriksen against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Midfielder Eric Dier has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur missed Christian Eriksen during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Eriksen was absent through illness as Spurs struggled to a point at St Mary's, with Harry Kane cancelling out Davinson Sanchez's early own goal.

Spurs were arguably fortunate to earn a share of the spoils on the south coast, and Dier has acknowledged that the North Londoners are a better team with Eriksen in the starting lineup.

The 24-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "Christian is a fantastic player. We have a great squad but obviously there are not many players like Christian.

"Christian plays an important role in the team. He is one of the links between phases of play and is key in that regard. He can create chances and score goals."

Eriksen is expected to be available when Spurs face Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
