Danny Rose: 'Tottenham Hotspur yet to hit top heights in title race'

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose claims that his side have given themselves "a great platform to push on" after making an unbeaten start to the season.

Danny Rose has called on his Tottenham Hotspur teammates to 'move out of third gear' and prove that they have what it takes to go all the way in the Premier League title race.

The Lilywhites are the only top-flight team not to have yet tasted defeat this term but have been held in successive games, leaving them fifth in a congested table.

Rose admits that Tottenham are yet to show the same type of form that took them close to their first title in more than 60 years last time out, but is confident that the platform is now there to push on over the coming weeks and go one better than 2015-16.

"As a team we've not quite hit the heights of last season," he told Sky Sports News. "I'd say we're still in third gear and there's still a lot more to come from us. We lost the league last season and the manager wants us to use that as motivation.

"We've started the season OK and we want to continue our unbeaten run and see where that takes us. I don't agree with the claim this is our last chance to win the league for a while, if you see what we did to Man City it shows we can still mix it with the best teams in the league. We've given ourselves a great platform to push on this season."

Spurs face a tough run of games over the next month as they take on champions Leicester City on Saturday, as well as London rivals Arsenal, West Ham United and Chelsea in quick succession.
