How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Tranmere Rovers

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for their FA Cup third-round clash with League Two side Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Tottenham Hotspur will get their FA Cup campaign underway on Friday night when they take on Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Spurs have already reached the semi-finals of the EFL Cup this season, but will view the FA Cup as another chance to end an 11-year wait for silverware.

The eight-time winners have not lifted this trophy since 1991, but they will be overwhelming favourites to get the better of their League Two opponents and reach the fourth round.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Mauricio Pochettino could set his side out for the contest.

Possible TOT XI vs. TRA

Out: Eric Dier (appendix), Jan Vertonghen (thigh), Victor Wanyama (knee), Vincent Janssen (foot)
Doubtful: Mousa Dembele (ankle), Erik Lamela (calf), Serge Aurier (groin)

Pochettino is almost certain to ring the changes considering the lowly position of his side's opponents and the prospect of a semi-final against Chelsea on Tuesday.

The likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and the in-form Son Heung-min are expected to be amongst those rested, but injuries in defence and central midfield mean that the rotation may not be as wholesale as usual.

There could be a rare appearance for Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, who has played just 26 minutes of football across all competitions this season and has been linked with a January loan move away.

Youngster Oliver Skipp could also start, while the likes of Fernando Llorente and Paulo Gazzaniga should get another opportunity to show what they can do.
