The visitors started the brightest and forced Heurelho Gomes to make a number of good saves in the opening 30 minutes.
However, the home side took the lead against the run of play soon after when Roman Pavlyuchenko found the top corner with a free kick.
The away side continued to look a threat on the counter attack after the break, but Harry Redknapp's side kept them out to claim the three points.
