Jermain Defoe thinks that England have a "great chance" of winning Euro 2012 following UEFA's decision to reduce Wayne Rooney's three-match ban.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe believes that England have a better chance of winning Euro 2012 following the successful appeal against Wayne Rooney's three-match ban.

The 26-year-old will be prohibited from playing against France and Sweden in the Three Lions' Group D matches, but is eligible to feature in Fabio Capello's side for their final group match against co-hosts Ukraine.

"To try and win a tournament you need all your players fit, so Wayne will be delighted to only get a two-game ban," Defoe told talkSPORT. "We'll have a great chance now to go on and win it."

Meanwhile, the Football Association have defended their decision to appeal the Manchester United striker's ban following accusations of double standards.
