Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales indicates that Spain boss Luis Enrique could leave his role and return to club management after the World Cup.

Spain coach Luis Enrique could reportedly leave his role after the World Cup to return to club management.

The former Roma and Barcelona manager is currently coaching La Roja at the World Cup in Qatar, where his side have thrashed Costa Rica 7-0 and drawn 1-1 with Germany.

While Enrique is preparing for Spain's final group game against Japan, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, has suggested that Enrique could leave his position after the tournament to coach a club side.

Speaking to the Spanish radio programme El Larguero, Rubiales said: "We cannot compete with clubs that put down 10 or 20m euros. We will not do it and Luis Enrique knows that.

He rejected a huge amount of money before. When we get back to Spain we will analyse everything together."

The president claimed that the 52-year-old turned down an offer from the Premier League before taking over a Spain boss in 2018, with Chelsea reportedly keen to appoint Enrique at the time.

Rubiales added: "Before accepting our offer, he rejected a huge offer a couple of weeks before from the Premier League. Then he accepted our offer, which was vastly inferior. It was as much as we could afford.

"We can't match that sort of money but the financial side was not a problem because he was completely committed to us."

With Rubiales appearing to be resigned to the possibility of Enrique leaving his role, he was questioned further about whether he wanted him to stay.

In reply, Rubiales said: "I want to win the World Cup, after that if he stays or doesn't stay because we can't reach an agreement, we just have to be grateful."

Spain are currently sat at the top of Group E, and they will face Japan in their final group game at the Khalifa International Stadium on Thursday.
