Premier League new boys Southampton beat Wolves 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at St Mary's Stadium.

Both sides started with strong lineups as they looked to improve their fitness before the start of the new season.

It was Southampton who started the better of the two sides, keeping the ball well as they looked to take an early lead.

The home side finally made the breakthrough on 26 minutes when Billy Sharp scored from a low shot to make it 1-0.

The half-time whistle blew with the Saints deservedly ahead.

The second half began with Southampton still on top, looking to add to their lead.

They did just that on 69 minutes when Jason Puncheon's shot from 18 yards flew into the net to make it 2-0.

The referee blew for full time with the score still at 2-0.
