Shakhtar Donetsk hammer BATE Borisov

Shakhtar Donetsk hammer BATE Borisov 5-0, with Luiz Adriano netting a hat-trick to become this season's Champions League top scorer.

Shakhtar Donetsk have hammered BATE Borisov 5-0 at home to strengthen their claims for qualification to the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Ukraine side had the lead after 19 minutes when Darijo Srna turned home inside the box after a clever cut-back from Luiz Adriano.

Adriano almost doubled the advantage immediately, but the Brazilian couldn't quite get on the end of a ball in from Taison.

Alex Teixeira then pounced on a good cross from Douglas Costa, but his effort was just wide of the left-hand post shortly before the half-hour mark.

Mircea Lucescu doubled the lead just three minutes into the second half when Teixeira netted from close range after Adriano had released his teammate with a clever flick-on.

Shortly before the hour mark, Shakhtar had their third when Adriano made no mistake from the penalty spot to become this season's top scorer in the Champions League.

The Brazilian striker then added his second of the evening to make it 4-0 with seven minutes remaining before claiming another late on to make it nine goals in five games.
