Andy Welsh to undergo surgery

Scunthorpe United midfielder Andy Welsh will require surgery on his damaged knee.

Scunthorpe United boss Brian Laws has revealed that Andy Welsh will require surgery on his damaged knee.

The 29-year-old, who missed the win over Southend United last Friday, suffered the injury in training on Thursday.

"Until he goes under the knife we're not really sure exactly what it's going to be. Hopefully it will be a Matty Godden-esque job - a clean-up, tidy - we will wait and see," Welsh told reporters at a press conference.

"But we know he's going to be out for some considerable amount of time, but the length of that we don't know yet until we get the final result on that."

Scunthorpe sit 11th in the League two table.
