Scotland manager Gordon Strachan claims that he wants to create new national heroes.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has claimed that he wants to create new heroes for the nation's fans.

Th 56-year-old took charge of the Tartan Army in January, but defeats in their last two matches have seen the team fail to qualify for next year's World Cup in Brazil.

"I've been lucky and it's time to put something back," Strachan told reporters. "I'm trying to give heroes back to the Scottish people as there were when I was growing up. We don't have too many now.

"I want to bring through two or three young men who can be heroes in the future. We are getting better and even if it puts in a platform for someone to take over in years to come that would be great."

Scotland continue their World Cup qualifying campaign on June 7 when they face Croatia in Zagreb.
