Craig Gordon delighted to have made Scotland return

Craig Gordon admits that his road back to international football was a long one after making his first Scotland appearance in four years against England.

Craig Gordon has admitted that his road back to international football was a long one after he made his Scotland return in their 3-1 defeat to England on Tuesday.

The Celtic keeper won 40 caps, the last of which came against the Faroe Islands in 2010, before spending two years out of the game with a serious knee injury.

He was a half-time substitute in the match at Celtic Park, and Gordon said that it was "nice to be back".

"I think I have had to work a bit harder for this cap than I probably did for any of the first 40. So from my point of view it was nice to be back," he told reporters.

"I was hoping for a start but to get on was a huge lift for me personally after being out for so long."

The former Sunderland stopper made his international debut against Trinidad and Tobago in 2004.
