Kenny Dalglish: 'Kieran Tierney's flexibility key for Scotland'

Kenny Dalglish believes that Scotland defender Kieran Tierney's flexibility at full-back is a key asset for the national team ahead of their final World Cup qualifiers.

Kenny Dalglish has suggested that Scotland defender Kieran Tierney's flexibility at full-back is a key asset for the national team ahead of their final World Cup qualifying matches.

Tierney has established himself as Scotland's left-back but the Celtic man could be switched to right-back with Liverpool's Andy Robertson expected to take back his left-sided role.

Dalglish, who is Scotland's record appearance maker after featuring 102 times for the team, believes that Tierney could successfully make the switch.

"It depends if Tierney feels comfortable enough at right-back," Dalglish told reporters. "He's certainly good enough to play there.

"We never bring so many players through and we bring through two in the one position who are very, very good in the same position.

"You only get [to the World Cup] if you deserve to get there and Gordon [Strachan] and the team have given themselves a fantastic opportunity."

Scotland need two wins for a playoff spot as they host Slovakia at Hampden Park on Thursday night before travelling to Slovenia in their final match.
