Sampdoria sign midfielder Edgar Barreto from Palermo on a free transfer.

Sampdoria have announced the signing of midfielder Edgar Barreto from Palermo.

The 30-year-old Paraguayan joins the club on a free transfer after seeing his contract expire at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Barreto scored seven goals in 122 games during a four-season spell with Palermo.

"Now we can say: Edgar Osvaldo Barreto is officially a Sampdoria player," read a message on the club's official Facebook page.

Barreto has made 60 appearances for the Paraguay national team.
