Sampdoria see off Fiorentina

Sampdoria recover from their midweek defeat at Inter Milan by claiming a 3-1 Serie A win against Fiorentina at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Sampdoria have moved up to third in the Serie A table after claiming a 3-1 win over Fiorentina at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Khouma Babacar and Roberto Soriano came close for both sides early on as the game started at a blistering pace.

Sampdoria were then awarded a penalty when Soriano was tripped inside the box by Alberto Aquilani, and Angelo Palombo stepped up to fire home from the spot and give his side the lead.

Five minutes later the visitors were given a spot kick of their own when Palombo was adjudged to have brought down Babacar.

Gonzalo Rodriguez was the man tasked with scoring the penalty, but his low strike was saved by Sergio Romero.

The hosts made them pay for that miss by doubling their advantage in the 43rd minute as Luca Rizzo worked some room in the box and drilled an effort past Neto.

On the stroke of half time, Fiorentina pulled a goal back through Stefan Savic, who rose highest to power in a header from Borja Valero's corner.

Babacar saw a low free kick saved and Valero fired over the bar as Fiorentina looked for an equaliser at the start of the second half.

With 12 minutes left, Eder made sure of the points by scoring Sampdoria's third goal when he dribbled through the visiting defence and slotted a low effort past Neto.
