Walters targets World Cup spot

Jon Walters is determined to help the Republic of Ireland reach next summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Jon Walters has said that the Republic of Ireland squad are desperate to qualify for next summer's World Cup after the disappointment they suffered in Euro 2012.

Ireland finished bottom of their group, failing to take a single point from their three games in the tournament, but Walters is determined to help his country reach the World Cup in Brazil next year.

"After the disappointment of the Euros, being there and being so disappointed to go out like we did, you want to get straight back into it," he told Sky Sports News.

"Once you have a taste of it, you want to get back in, so everyone is determined to get to Brazil.

"We are all really hungry for these two games and they are going to define where we are going to end up in the group, so they are exciting games to play in."

The Republic of Ireland host Sweden in their next World Cup qualifier on September 6.
