Republic of Ireland midfielder Damien Duff announces his retirement from international football, having won 100 caps.

Irish midfielder Damien Duff has announced his retirement from international football.

Duff won 100 caps for the national team, the last of which came against Italy in this summer's European Championships.

The Fulham winger made his debut for Ireland in 1998 against Czech Republic and went on to become the fifth most capped Irish player in history, scoring eight goals and playing in two major tournaments in the process.

The 33-year-old follows in the footsteps of fellow centurion Shay Given in retiring from Giovanni Trapattoni's side, and the Italian boss has expressed concerns over more senior players doing the same.

Duff had previously ruled out retirement, but has since changed his mind and will not feature in Ireland's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.
