Marco Tardelli downplays Ireland injury crisis

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Marco Tardelli downplays reports of an injury crisis ahead of Euro 2012.

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Marco Tardelli has downplayed reports of an injury crisis ahead of Euro 2012.

The national team have a host of players out for Saturday's warm-up friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina, but the Italian insists that there are no major concerns for the finals.

John O'Shea, Richard Dunne, Sean St Ledger and Kevin Foley are all carrying injuries, while first-choice goalkeeper Shay Given is seeing a knee specialist in London to assess his fitness.

"St Ledger has a little soreness in the groin. I think it's possible after Saturday or Sunday that he can play, but it's better we don't take a risk and he rests," Tardelli told Sky Sports News.

"Richard Dunne has a little problem also in the groin, but I think after two or three days, he will be good.

"Neither John O'Shea nor Richard Dunne will play [against Bosnia] - I think. I am not very sure, but it's possible."

Hull City's Paul McShane has been called up to the Ireland squad to provide cover for O'Shea, Dunne and St Ledger, but Tardelli said that the trio will be back in training in "three or four days".

Republic of Ireland's Euro 2012 campaign gets underway on June 10 when they take on Croatia.
