Real Sociedad fail to defeat Deportivo La Coruna despite playing most of the second half with a one-man advantage and settle for a 1-1 draw at home.

Deportivo La Coruna have moved off the foot of the table in La Liga thanks to a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad away from home.

The home side started the game on a brighter note, as Carlos Vela combined with Xabi Prieto outside the box to shoot just wide of the post in the second minute.

Sociedad continued to enjoy most of the possession with Depor restricted to half-chances until the 27th minute.

Pizzi collected a loose pass from Alex Bergantinos and chipped his effort over Sociedad goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to put Deportivo into the lead.

The Basque side were unlucky not to equalise in the 36th minute when Imanol Agirretxe's header came off the post.

Bravo then denied Evaldo with a good save, turning a good Depor move away for a corner.

However, the Sociedad goalkeeper failed to do anything on 45 minutes when Vela ran down the right, cut inside and struck home for his eighth league goal of the season.

The opening minutes of the second half saw the hosts control proceedings at the Anoeta, but fail to create any clearcut chances.

Things threatened to go wrong for Depor on 64 minutes when Evaldo was dismissed for his second bookable offence.

Sociedad increased their pressure thereafter with Antoine Griezmann and Vela trying their luck, but all their attempts were thwarted by a resolute Deportivo defence.
