La Liga giants Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to sign a new left-back in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid reportedly intend to sign a new left-back during the summer transfer window.

Carlo Ancelotti currently has two options in that position in the form of David Alaba and Ferland Mendy, the latter starting 18 matches during 2022-23.

However, the 27-year-old has not performed to a consistent level, while he has just one assist from his 18 starts in all competitions.

While Alaba is regarded as a quality alternative, Ancelotti has preferred to use the Austria international in the centre alongside Eder Militao or Antonio Rudiger.

As a result, Los Blancos find themselves in a position where bringing in reinforcements in that area of the pitch is an increasing possibility ahead of the next campaign.

According to Fichajes, the European champions are ready to remove Mendy from his role as first choice, with two players identified as replacements.

The report claims that club officials have placed each of Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and Benfica's Alejandro Grimaldo as their two priority options.

Despite a number of fitness issues, Davies remains a key man at the Allianz Arena, contributing a total of six goals and 21 assists from his 134 appearances in all competitions.

The Canada international, who can play in any position down the left flank, has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, something which may prove to be an issue to Real if they make a move for his signature.

With Lucas Hernandez suffering a serious knee injury at the World Cup, Bayern have already moved to sign Daley Blind as short-term competition for Davies for the remainder of the campaign.

The report suggests that Grimaldo may prove to be the most realistic option, a consequence of the 27-year-old's contract expiring at the end of the season.

Grimaldo has made 20 appearances in Portugal's top flight and the Champions League during 2022-23, contributing three goals and five assists.

Foreign clubs are now in a position where they can hold discussions with Grimaldo and his representatives regarding a pre-contract agreement.
