Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly prepared to hand Kylian Mbappe a significant pay rise, putting him level with the income of Neymar.
Although Mbappe has been frequently linked with a switch to Real Madrid, a move is unlikely to materialise this summer due to the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.
French football journalist Jonathan Johnson has been commenting on the situation, suggesting that Mbappe will only pen fresh terms once it becomes clear whether or not PSG will continue with their Champions League campaign.
Speaking to Transfer Talk, associated with Sky Sports, Johnson said: "The situation with Mbappe was always that he wanted to wait and see how this season played out, notably in the Champions League, to see if progress was made.
"Progress has been made in that PSG have returned to the quarter-finals, but the problem is that PSG don't know if they're able to go any further at the moment because Champions League action hasn't resumed.
"PSG have already made it very clear to him that they want to offer him the same sort of financial terms that somebody like Neymar enjoys, in light of the fact that Mbappe has become one of the real stars of the club."
Mbappe currently has two years remaining on his existing deal.
