Sandro Rosell: 'Lionel Messi has not requested pay rise'

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell denies that Lionel Messi has asked for an improved contract.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has insisted that Lionel Messi has not requested an improvement on his current contact.

Reports have claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo's recent contract extension with Real Madrid – which made him the highest-paid player in the world – had led to Messi asking for an improved salary.

However, Rosell told reporters at a press conference: "Does Ronaldo's renewal affect Messi's contract? Messi hasn't said anything to us.

"He's happy here and he's at the best club in the world. No news is good news."

Barcelona open their Champions League campaign at home to Ajax on Wednesday evening.
