Martin Odegaard's immediate future at Real Madrid has been called into question after he was left out of both the senior Champions League squad to face Malmo and the club's youth league selection.
The 16-year-old became one of the most high-profile teenage footballers when he joined Real from Stromsgodset in January and he made his first-team debut for the capital side at the end of last season.
The Norway international also played a part during pre-season, but has not featured for the first team this season and both Marcos Llorente and Borja Mayoral were taken in his place for Wednesday's trip to Malmo.
According to Goal.com, Odegaard has struggled to impress head coach Rafael Benitez thus far, but the reason for his exclusion in the Under-19 youth league has raised more questions.
Odegaard currently plays for the Casilla team under Zinedine Zidane.
