Nacho: 'I want to play centre-back'

Real Madrid defender Nacho says that while he prefers to operate at centre-back, he is more than happy to play all across the back four for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid defender Nacho has revealed that his preferred position is centre-back, but the Spaniard is prepared to play anywhere for the team.

The 25-year-old has been with Los Blancos since the age of 11, but has primarily been a back-up during his four years in the first team.

Injuries to key defenders have allowed the Spanish international to make 12 appearances this season, however, and he has been deployed at both centre-back and left-back this term.

"My favoured position is centre-back as I've played there since I was little and it's where I play my best football, but at the end of the day, what matters is playing," Nacho told reporters.

"I'm working hard and trying to earn my place in the team and be competitive. I know there have been injuries, but I'm prepared for when the coach needs me. I know there's more competition here than in any team in the world, but I have a chance if I train and playing well, of course."

Nacho made his first-team debut for Real Madrid in the 2010-11 season.
