Iker Casillas's mother slams Florentino Perez over Real Madrid exit

Iker Casillas's mother hits out at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for "pushing" her son out of the club following a 25-year affiliation.

The mother of former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has blasted president Florentino Perez for "pushing" her Porto-bound son out of the club.

Casillas, 34, saw his 25-year spell with the Blancos come to an end on Saturday after signing for the Portuguese outfit.

This morning, the Spain captain - a World Cup winner in 2010 - fought back tears as he struggled to read a statement during an emotional press conference, in which he failed to mention Perez.

"Iker has put up with a great deal, he has suffered psychological pressure and they treated him differently to other players," Mari Carmen told El Mundo.

"I have watched him suffer for many years. It is Florentino who is pushing him out because he wanted to end his career at Real Madrid."

She then added that her son - who helped Real to 18 major honours during his 16-year stint in the senior team - was too good to join a "third-tier team" like Porto.

"Porto is a third-tier team for someone of Iker's stature.

"A world champion can't end up at Porto. He could have gone wherever he wanted and I wouldn't have cared if it had been Barcelona because they are gentlemen."

Casillas made 725 senior appearances for the club.
