Real Madrid team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Villarreal

Sports Mole rounds up Real Madrid's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their La Liga clash with Villarreal on Sunday.

Real Madrid have three more matches to tick off in what has been a season to forget, starting with Sunday's home match against Villarreal.

Los Blancos have collected 65 points in La Liga after 35 games - their lowest figure at this stage since the 2001-02 campaign (also 65).

Zinedine Zidane's men must win all three of their remaining matches and hope that Atletico Madrid fail to pick up another point if they are to finish above their city rivals in second place.

Ahead of their weekend clash with Villarreal at the Bernabeu, Sports Mole rounds up Madrid's latest injury and suspension news.

Vinicius Junior

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Shin
Possible return date: April 5 (vs. Villarreal)

Vinicius has not featured since Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax two months ago, but he is now back in training and is closing in on a first appearance under Zidane.

Karim Benzema

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Benzema's absence with a hamstring strain is a major blow for Los Blancos, who have relied on the Frenchman in recent weeks. No player other than Benzema has scored in their last five matches - a big concern, considering that he is likely to miss the rest of the season.

Sergio Ramos

Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: May 18 (vs. Real Betis)

Madrid have been without their skipper for the past month because of a calf injury sustained in training. Ramos is in a race against time to play again this side of the summer.

Alvaro Odriozola
