David Villa out of Real Madrid clash

David Villa will miss Atletico Madrid's Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday with a thigh injury.

David Villa will miss Atletico Madrid's Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.

The Spanish forward limped out of his side's 4-0 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday having opened the scoring, with results on Monday confirming a thigh injury.

According to the official report, Villa has suffered a "severe pull" and, as a result, he will not be available for the first leg at the Bernabeu.

The injury is also expected the keep the experienced forward out of the weekend trip to Almeria, but he could return for the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final next week.
