Raphael Varane admits defending must improve

Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane admits that the team's defending needs to improve.

Raphael Varane has admitted that Real Madrid's defending needs to improve if they are to challenge for silverware this season.

The Spanish outfit have conceded five times in their last two league matches and have managed just three clean sheets in all competitions this season.

"We can improve defensively and must do so collectively. It is not just a matter for the defence, but for the whole team," Varane told reporters at a press conference.

"Tonight we need a point to qualify, but we want first place in the group. They need a win and there is going to be a high pace to the game and we must respond to that."

Madrid face Juventus in the Champions League this evening.
