Carlo Ancelotti: 'Cristiano Ronaldo back on track'

Carlo Ancelotti lauds Cristiano Ronaldo after ending a mini goal drought by scoring in Real Madrid's 2-0 Champions League over Schalke.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo after the player ended a perceived goal drought in Wednesday's 2-0 Champions League win away to Schalke 04.

The 30-year-old nodded home a first-half opener before Marcelo doubled the lead on 79 minutes as the Blancos took a big step toward the quarter-final.

Ronaldo had received more pre-match coverage than usual after failing to score in any of his last three games, equating to almost five hours of football without finding the net.

"It is clear that Cristiano Ronaldo lives to score goals," Ancelotti told UEFA.com. "It's never a problem for us when he doesn't score for a couple of games.

"But he, of course, minds. Today it was not just any goal, it was an important goal, the opener. I believe we are back on the right track."

The Portuguese now has 37 goals in all competitions this season.
