A report has claimed that Nigel Adkins is about to be named the new manager of Premier League strugglers Reading.
The Royals have been in the market for a new boss ever since they decided to part company with Brian McDermott a fortnight ago.
Recent speculation had suggested that the job had been offered to Gus Poyet, but the Uruguayan eventually opted to remain in his role with Championship outfit Brighton & Hove Albion.
However, the club have now closed in on Adkins, who has been in talks with Reading officials over the last 48 hours, according to Sky Sports News.
The report went on to suggest that the Berkshire-based club were hopeful that Adkins would be appointed in time for Saturday's trip to Arsenal.
The 48-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Southampton in January.
