Rangers manager Ally McCoist has admitted that he does not want to see striker Nikica Jelavic leave Ibrox in January.
The Croatian forward has been linked to both Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers in the English Premier League after a number of impressive appearances in the SPL this season.
Asked whether he would sell Jelavic in order to fund other January transfers, McCoist told Sky Sports News: "Would I? Not really, to be honest. You want to keep your best players and I'm no different."
However, the Scot conceded that the team needs new faces.
"I think we need them. I have gone on record as saying we could do with strengthening in the forward area - losing [Steven] Naismith and [Kyle] Lafferty is nursing a bit of an injury."
Rangers are now second in the SPL table after Wednesday night's 1-0 defeat at Celtic.
