Rangers chief executive Charles Green has hit out at the players who have rejected a transfer of their contracts to the newco and is prepared to take legal action.
The stricken Glasgow-based club were dealt an additional blow when their captain Steven Davis became one of seven players to snub the former Scottish Premier League champions.
"I'm very, very disappointed of course," Green told Sky Sports News. "Particularly so late in the proceedings.
"It is clear in the regulations, if someone has an objection they have to notify within 24 hours, this is nearly two weeks. I think this is just opportunism. We will definitely challenge it yes."
Davis along with Kyle Lafferty, Allan McGregor, Steven Whittaker, Steven Naismith, Jamie Ness and Sone Aluko are all thought to have opted to release themselves from the club.
