Half-Time Report: Rangers cruising against Alloa Athletic

Rangers open up a 4-1 lead over Alloa Athletic at half time in their Scottish Championship match.

Rangers have opened up a commanding 4-1 lead over Alloa Athletic in the first half of their their Scottish Championship match at Recreation Park.

The visitors broke the deadlock less than five minutes into the meeting as Nicky Law slid a low cross in for James Tavernier, who smashed the ball into the back of the net.

It took Alloa just four minutes to get back on level terms though as Michael Chopra volleyed the ball in at the near post following a quick counter-attack from the home side.

However, Rangers were piling forward again straight from the restart, and were awarded a penalty less than a minute after Chopra's goal as Jason Holt took a tumble on the box, leaving Martyn Waghorn to restore the Glasgow side's lead.

Wes Foderingham came under pressure as the home side tried to get back on level terms again, but the keeper punched a free kick clear before watching Geoff Mitchell head wide.

Rangers could have extended their lead further though as Kenny Miller controlled a high ball forward before squaring it for Waghorn, but he was denied his second of the match by the crossbar.

Mark Warburton's side did add a third shortly before the interval though as Holt was on hand to direct a low striker from Lee Wallace into the back of the net, scoring his first competitive goal for the side.

Things got worse for the hosts before the break though as Law curled the ball in towards Miller just a couple of minutes later, leaving the striker to slot in a fourth for Rangers.
