Thomas Meunier: "I want to play every match"

Thomas Meunier admits that he is finding it difficult to play second fiddle to Dani Alves when it comes to the right-back position at Paris Saint-Germain.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has admitted that he is finding it difficult to play second fiddle to Dani Alves when it comes to the right-back position at the French club.

Meunier, 25, joined PSG from Club Brugge in the summer of 2016, and the full-back scored once and provided four assists in 22 Ligue 1 appearances for the French giants during the 2016-17 campaign.

Alves's arrival in Paris means that Meunier's first-team position is now under threat, but the Belgian has vowed to remain "patient" in his battle for a starting role.

"Yes, because I want to play every match, whether it's against Gueugnon, Niort or Bayern Munich," Meunier told L'Equipe. "I want to be on the pitch every time.

"I am in a team which is one of the top five in the world where the back-ups and the starters are about the same level. It takes a bit of luck sometimes. I see the choices of the coach.

"I just have to be patient for now, because I'm not the priority. But I will do everything to complicate the choices as much as possible when I play.

"I do what I can and I usually play good matches, which is important for the technical staff because they know they can count on me, but they already knew that last season."

Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are all said to be admirers of Meunier.
