Paris Saint-Germain beat Marseille to go eight points clear of AS Monaco

Paris Saint-Germain move eight points clear of second-placed AS Monaco at the top of the Ligue 1 table by beating fierce rivals Marseille 2-0 at Parc des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain have moved eight points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table by beating fierce rivals Marseille 2-0.

Second-half strikes from Maxwell and Edinson Cavani at Parc des Princes made sure that AS Monaco's 2-0 defeat at Saint-Etienne was fully punished.

Maxwell, who extended his contract with the Paris giants earlier this week, broke the deadlock on 50 minutes, firing home from 12 yards after being set up by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cavani wrapped up a deserved three points for his side 11 minutes from full time with a well-placed header following a cross from Gregory Van der Wiel.

PSG remain unbeaten in the league in 2014.
