Paris Saint-Germain sack coach Antoine Kombouare despite their lofty position in Ligue 1, according to reports in France.

Reports in France have surfaced suggesting that Paris Saint-Germain have sacked coach Antoine Kombouare.

French news agency AFP reported that PSG sporting director Leonardo had informed Kombouare of his departure.

"Antoine was informed he was being sacked today by Leonardo," a source close to Kombouare said, adding that the manager's assistants were also being fired.

The post at France's richest club has been highly sought-after in recent months with Rafael Benitez, Frank Rijkaard and Claude Makelele all being linked with the role.

His alleged sacking comes the day after the club secured top spot of Ligue 1 at Christmas with a 1-0 win at St Etienne.
