Thiago Motta: 'Paris Saint-Germain were better last year'

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta admits that his Ligue 1 champions were perhaps playing better football at this stage last season.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta has admitted that his side may have been playing better football last season than this campaign.

Despite being on a 22-game unbeaten run, the Parisians are yet to find the form that saw them clinch the domestic title with a record points tally last season.

"I think we were better last year. The way we had possession of the ball was so much different last season," the midfielder said in an interview with BeIN Sports.

"Yes, we had a lot of the ball, but we knew exactly what we wanted to do with it and what we needed to do with it to put our opponents in danger.

"With or without the ball we were playing more as a team. We were more compact. We would all give that little bit extra to help our teammates on the pitch."

PSG currently hold top in the Ligue 1 table, two points clear of chasers Marseille.
