Simon Grayson thrilled with Leyton Orient scalp

Simon Grayson praises his players after Preston North End became the first League One team to take all three points off Leyton Orient at home this season.

Preston North End manager Simon Grayson has expressed his delight with his team's 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient at the Matchroom Stadium this afternoon.

The Lilywhites secured the three points through Joe Garner, whose volley proved too hot for goalkeeper Jamie Jones.

The result means that Grayson's men are the first team to inflict a home defeat on Russell Slade's Orient in League One this season, and the 43-year-old is thrilled with his players' performance.

Speaking to reporters, Grayson said: "It was a great goal from Joe Garner that put us in front and then you expect Orient to come at you because they are a good team, they are not at the top of the division for no reason.

"But when we had to battle and scrap and make last-ditch challenges, we did that. Orient work you extremely hard, they close you down and stop you playing and we had to be better than them at doing that.

"Every one of our players worked so hard for the team and contributed in a fantastic way."

The Londoners slip to second in the standings following Wolverhampton Wanderers' 1-0 victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane.

Preston, who remain fifth in England's third tier, level on points with Brentford, host Colchester United at Deepdale next Saturday.
