Paul Scholes turns down Oldham Athletic role

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes turns down the chance to become manager of boyhood club Oldham Athletic.

Paul Scholes has left the door open to manage Oldham Athletic in the future, despite turning down the opportunity to fill the current vacancy at the League One club.

The former Manchester United midfielder is a long-time supporter of the Latics and he has previously revealed that he is keen to move into football management, but the 40-year-old believes that it is the wrong time for him to fill the position.

In his column in The Independent, he said: "One day, I believe I'll manage Oldham, who are very close to my heart. This was the right job at the wrong time.

"They are a really good family club who mean a great deal to a lot of people - myself included. I just did not feel this was the right time.

"When I go into management, I want to do so with 100% commitment. At the moment, I have a lot of responsibilities and things going on in my life that I cannot simply drop immediately."

Scholes has previously worked with the Manchester United Under-19 side, as well as assisting Ryan Giggs during his temporary spell in charge at Old Trafford last season.
