Winston Bogarde 'applies for Oldham Athletic job'

Winston Bogarde has reportedly applied for the vacant managerial role at Oldham Athletic.

Bogarde formerly played for Chelsea, but gained notoriety for earning a reputed £10m pay packet despite making only four appearances for the Blues.

According to the Daily Mail, the 44-year-old ex-Netherlands international is one of 70 people to have registered their interest in taking over the Latics, who are currently in mid-table in League One.

It is thought that Oldham are in no rush to appoint a new manager and have even declared their interest in luring Manchester United legend and lifelong Oldham fan Paul Scholes into the Boundary Park hotseat.

Among the other names mentioned to succeed Lee Johnson are ex-West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine and Iain Dowie.

Oldham bounced back from their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Preston North End on Saturday by narrowly beating Port Vale on Tuesday evening.
