James Vaughan taken to hospital

Paul Lambert reveals that Norwich City striker James Vaughan has gone to hospital with a facial injury.

Norwich City striker James Vaughan has been taken to hospital after clashing with West Bromwich Albion's Gabriel Tamas at Carrow Road this afternoon, manager Paul Lambert has confirmed.

Vaughan appeared to be struck in the face by a stray elbow from the Romanian defender in stoppage time, an incident that was missed by referee Mark Halsey.

The centre-forward required treatment off the pitch and has now seeked further medical attention.

"James has gone to see the plastic surgeon at the minute, and it is a bad one. It has gone straight through the lip and they can't just stitch it up, the specialist has got to look at it," Lambert said after the match.

"He had got a really nasty gash in his upper lip, which will need a bit of work on it.

"Hopefully we will sort it tonight, and we will have to see how he is."

Vaughan, 23, came on as a second-half substitute during West Brom's 1-0 victory.
