Neil Adams "delighted" at Norwich City appointment

New Norwich manager Neil Adams is "delighted" at having been given the chance to take charge of the club following the sacking of Chris Hughton.

New Norwich City manager Neil Adams has expressed his delight at having been given the job at Carrow Road.

The Canaries announced that they had parted company with former boss Chris Hughton and replaced him with Adams earlier this evening as the club look to retain their Premier League status in the final five games of the season.

The 48-year-old, who was previously the club's Under-18s coach, faces a crucial relegation battle against Fulham in his first match in charge next Saturday before games against Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal to finish the season.

Norwich currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, five points above the drop with five games remaining, but their fate is out of their own control due to basement club Sunderland having three games in hand.

"To say that I am delighted to have been offered the opportunity of managing Norwich City Football Club would be a massive understatement," Adams told Norwich's official website.

"People know what this club means to me, and so it goes without saying that we will be doing everything possible to ensure that we maintain our top-flight status for next season.

"These final five games will be a huge test for us, and everyone must step up to the mark. But with the full backing of these magnificent Norwich supporters we will have every chance of achieving our objective."

Adams made 206 appearances for Norwich during a six-year spell as a player in the 1990s.
