Stephen Keshi sacked by Nigeria

Nigeria part company with head coach Stephen Keshi.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has terminated the contract of coach Stephen Keshi with immediate effect.

The 53-year-old returned for his third spell in charge of the Super Eagles in April, but he has lasted less than three months after a turbulent spell which saw him reportedly linked with the Ivory Coast job.

"The Nigeria Football Federation has decided to exercise its option to summarily terminate the employment contract of Mr Stephen Keshi with the Federation with immediate effect," a statement on the NFF's official website read.

As a player, Keshi won 64 caps in his 14 years of representing his country. In his first spell in charge of Nigeria, he guided the team to Africa Cup of Nations glory in 2013.

He left his post after the 2014 World Cup, only to return on a game-by-game basis. However, after failing to qualify for the 2017 AFCON, Keshi left again in November.

Salisu Yusuf and Shaibu Amodu will take control of Nigeria until a permanent successor is appointed.
